Modern Deck Spotlight: Azorius Turns

Inspired by a list Gerard Fabiano shared on Star City Games earlier this week, I put the following list together on a budge for Magic Online.

Azorius Turns (37)
Narset Transcendent
Dictate of Kruphix
Elixir of Immortality
Path to Exile
Gigadrowse
Remand
Telling Time
Anticipate
Cryptic Command
Serum Visions
Time Warp
Part the Waterveil
Temporal Mastery
Lands (23)
Celestial Colonnade
Glacial Fortress
Hallowed Fountain
10 Island
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Seachrome Coast
Temple of Enlightenment

Sideboard (15)
Celestial Purge
Stony Silence
Timely Reinforcements
Dispel
Delay
Gigadrowse
Laboratory Maniac

The basic idea is to delay your opponent winning long enough for you to start chaining spells that give you extra turns. Narset is amazing for this with Time Warp, as the -2 gives you 2 turns and really lets you chain it easily. The win condition? Beat them down with Celestial Colonnade (which the deck really should have more of) or by awakening Part the Waterveil. Overall the deck, online, was very cheap to assemble and seems pretty decent so far (though I’ve only really played against Bogles). The 1/1 split of Telling Time/Anticipate is only there because I’m not sure which I like better. Anticipate is often just the better of the two, unless you see a Temporal Mastery. This is a compelling argument for the inclusion of Telling Time.

Going forward I am going to be looking to build more modern decks online, though my budget is pretty limited at this time. It’s possible we’ll see Magic Online play a larger role in what I talk about on here, as it gives me the option to play modern whenever I want. Sadly, it just has the downfall of me needing to pick up duplicate copies of a lot of cards.

For reference, Gerard’s originally posted list is as follows:

Mono Blue Turns (37)
Thassa, God of the Sea
Jace Beleren
Elixir of Immortality
Dictate of Kruphix
Cryptic Command
Gigadrowse
Remand
Spell Snare
Telling Time
Part the Waterveil
Serum Visions
Temporal Mastery
Time Warp
Walk the Aeons
Lands (23)
18 Island
Faerie Conclave
Ghost Quarter
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Minamo, School at Water’s Edge
Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

Sideboard (15)
Laboratory Maniac
Aetherize
Gigadrowse
Hurkyl’s Recall
Spell Pierce
Swan Song
Wipe Away
Void Snare

I liked the idea of adding white for better interaction plus the addition of Narset, though mono blue seems like another good budget option that is likely very fun.
